It has been determined by the studies of scientists at the Darwin Station and Galapagos National Park that each Island of the Galapagos archipelago is the tip of an underwater volcano. Some are extinct, some are still active...
Imagine a gigantic eruption of hot lava, sparks here and there, flowing from the Pacific ocean floor 600 miles of the coast of what today is the country of Ecuador... there was nobody there... at least to our knowledge. Today this miracle of volcanic fire and creation can be experienced in the Galapagos, Fernandina the youngest of Isles is still in formation and it is part of an active volcano. The lucky few who cruised the nearby waters of Fernandina Island during the eruption were able to witness the tremendous impact of volcanic forces. Travellers still rave about the experience.
